Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

There was a change at the NBL leadership position after last games. Round 8 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Fujian (5-3). They were defeated by fourth ranked Shaanxi W. (5-3) 109-102 on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 109-102. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!) and the other American import forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) who added 26 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Shaanxi W.'s coach ZhengXiu Jiang used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward LaQuinton Ross (203-92, college: Ohio St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Shaanxi W. moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Fujian. Fujian will play next round against Hebei X. trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Shaanxi W. will try to continue on its current victory against thirteenth ranked Jiangsu L. in He Fei.
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Guizhou as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Fujian) loss. Guizhou smashed 12th ranked Hebei X. at home 126-107. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hebei X.. The winners were led by Central African-American power forward James Mays (206-86, college: Clemson) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and Mark Lyons supported him with 31 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Even a double-double of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists by American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Hebei X.. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guizhou have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Henan. Hebei X. at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Beijing. Hebei X. will play next round against Fujian trying to get back on the winning streak. Guizhou will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Henan on the road.
Bottom-ranked Dongbu (0-8) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to sixth ranked Anhui (5-3) 135-90 on Wednesday evening.
