CBA Round 27: Shandong Bulls defeat Xinjiang Flying Tige in the closest game of the week - Jan 25, 2013

The most exciting game of round 27 in the CBA took place in Jinan. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Xinjiang Flying Tige (15-11) to second ranked Shandong Bulls (18-7) 96-93 on Friday evening. Xinjiang Flying Tige trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 33-25 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 93-96 at the end of the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Shandong Bulls made 7 blocks. 29 personal fouls committed by Xinjiang Flying Tige helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for forward Ding Yanyuhang (200-93) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points. Jordanian forward Zaid Abbas (203-83) helped adding 14 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) with 31 points and 9 rebounds. Shandong Bulls have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain second place with 18-7 record having four points less than leader Guangdong ST, which they share with Beijing Ducks. Xinjiang Flying Tige at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Shanxi Zh.. Shandong Bulls is looking forward to face Shanxi Zhongyu (#4) in Taiyuan in the next round. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play on the road against Qingdao Eagles and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
CBA top team - Guandong Tigers (22-3) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat tenth ranked Bayi Rockets (11-15) in Ningbo 92-82. It was a quality performance for international Jianlian Yi (212-87) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Ike Diogu accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds. Guandong Tigers' coach ChunJiang Li allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international guard Shuo Han (196-86) came up with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for Bayi Rockets in the defeat. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Guandong Tigers. They maintain first place with 22-3 record. Bayi Rockets lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Foshan LL. Guandong Tigers will play against Shanghai Sharks (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Bayi Rockets will play against Fujian (#15) in Jinjiang and hope to get back on the winning track.
Eleventh-ranked TianJin Steel (10-15) gave a tough game to fifth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (15-11) in Tianjin on Friday. The visitors from Taiyuan managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected much easier game. The best player for the winners was Charles Gaines who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 27 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Donnell Harvey who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 18 rebounds. TianJin Steel's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Shanxi Zhongyu moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Xinjiang FT. TianJin Steel lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Shanxi Zhongyu will meet at home league's second-placed Shandong Bulls in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. TianJin Steel will play against Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#9) in Hangzhou and hope to secure a win.
An interesting game took place in Changchun where higher ranked Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank (13-12) was upset on the court of fourteenth ranked Jilin Tigers (10-16) 117-103. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank. It was a good game for Samuel Hoskin who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 18 rebounds. Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank's coach tested eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Jilin Tigers. They moved-up to thirteenth place. Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Jilin Tigers' next round opponent will be higher ranked DongGuan Leopards (#7) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
Sixth ranked Liaoning Hunters (14-11) crushed at home 13th ranked Jiangsu Dragons (9-16) by 26 points 127-101, which is the biggest margin this round on Friday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Josh-Emmanuel Akognon who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Liaoning Hunters maintains sixth place with 14-11 record, which they share with DongGuan L. Jiangsu Dragons lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fourteenth position with 16 games lost. Liaoning Hunters will face Zhejiang Chouzhou Bank (#8) in Hangzhou in the next round. Jiangsu Dragons will play at home against Beijing Ducks (#3).

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 27: Foshan LL won against Fujian QB on the opponent's court 123-118. Shanghai S. unfortunately lost to DongGuan L. in a home game 91-100. Beijing Ducks managed to beat Guangsha L. on the road 113-96.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 31 points and 14 rebounds by Peter John Ramos of Guangsha L..



Fujian QB - Foshan LL 118-123

Rather expected game in Jinjiang where 15th ranked Fujian (8-17) was defeated by twelfth ranked Foshan (11-15) 123-118 on Friday. Fujian was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 7-point lead after three quarters before a 41-29 charge of Foshan, which allowed them to win the game. They made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Fujian was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American forward Shavlik Randolph (208-83, college: Duke) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds. Forward KangMing Song (208-87) helped adding 20 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Sundiata Gaines (185-86, college: Georgia) with 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 8 assists and international Zhelin Wang (215-94) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds. Five Foshan and four Fujian players scored in double figures. Foshan moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Bayi R. Fujian lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifteenth position with 17 games lost. Foshan will have a break next round. Fujian will play at home against Bayi Rockets (#10) in Ningbo.
