Jia Xien claims Chinese CBA weekly honour - Jan 21, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Jia Xien (198-F-89) had a very impressive game in the last round for Shanxi Zh. and that's him to receive a Player of the Week award for round 25.
The 23-year old forward had the game-high 39 points adding eight rebounds for Shanxi Zh. in his team's victory, helping them to beat Liaoning H. (#7, 12-11) 119-114. Shanxi Zh. is placed at 4th position in Chinese CBA. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Shanxi Zh. will need more victories to improve their 14-10 record. Xien turned to be Shanxi Zh.'s top player in his first season with the team. Jia Xien averages this season 21.7ppg and 6.2rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 32-year old American power forward Donnell Harvey (203-F/C-80) of TianJin S.. Harvey impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 40 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as TianJin S. was edged by the lower-ranked Qingdao E. (#17, 7-17) 140-138. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. TianJin S. keeps 11th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 10-13 record. Harvey is a newcomer at TianJin S. and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was former international center XiaoXu Li (206-C-90) of Liaoning H. (#7). Li scored 25 points and grabbed twenty two rebounds (!!!). Despite Li's great performance Liaoning H. lost 114-119 to the higher-ranked Shanxi Zh. (#4, 14-10). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Liaoning H. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 12 victories and 11 lost games. Li has a great season in China. After 22 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.6rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Chris Daniels (211-C-84) of Qingdao E. - 42 points and 10 rebounds
5. Marcus Haislip (208-F-80) of DongGuan L. - 41 points and 11 rebounds
6. Dewarick Spencer (193-G-82) of Jilin NE T. - 34 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Shavlik Randolph (208-F-83) of Foshan LL - 42 points and 20 rebounds
8. Darnell Jackson (203-F-85) of Xinjiang FT - 23 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Mike Harris (198-F-83) of Jiangsu D. - 33 points and 15 rebounds
10. Quincy Douby (191-G-84) of Zhejiang CB - 34 points and 4 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Blatche and Xinjiang force game 4 in Best of 5 - 2 days ago
In a stunning fashion, Guangdong, leading the series 2-0 after blowout wins on the road and home, came in confident for game 3, looking to avenge last seasons loss in the CBA Finals, but it was not to be.
