Gaines
Experienced American Charles Gaines (201-F-81) had a very impressive game in the last round for Shanxi Zh. and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 20.
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 36 points and nineteen rebounds, while his team edged out Fujian QB (#15, 7-12) 106-105. Shanxi Zh. is placed at 4th position in Chinese CBA. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Shanxi Zh. will need more victories to improve their 12-7 record. It's Gaines' second year at Shanxi Zh. and it's hard to imagine this team without him. University of Southern Mississippi graduate has very impressive stats this year. Gaines is in league's top in points (2nd best: 31.8ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 14.5rpg) and averages solid 66.3% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 35-year old American guard Stephon Marbury (188-G-77) of second-ranked Beijing Ducks. Marbury impressed basketball fans with 35 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. Of course he lead Beijing Ducks to another comfortable win 124-105 over the lower-ranked Liaoning H. (#5, 11-7) being unquestionably team leader. Beijing Ducks' second position in the standings has not changed. His team's 15-4 record is not bad at all. Marbury is well-known by Beijing Ducks fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 27.8ppg (#9). His other stats are also decent: 4.5rpg and 5.9apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Peter John Ramos (222-C-85) of Guangsha L. (#9). Ramos got into 30-points club by scoring 36 points in the last round. He went also for twelve rebounds . Despite Ramos' great performance Guangsha L. lost 85-91 to the higher-ranked Guangdong ST (#1, 16-3). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Guangsha L. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 10 victories and 9 lost games. Ramos has a great season in China. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 12.1rpg (6th best). He also has 1.1bpg and FGP: 63.9%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Donnell Harvey (203-F/C-80) of TianJin S. - 26 points and 18 rebounds
5. Jianlian Yi (212-PF-87) of Guangdong ST - 31 points and 11 rebounds
6. Zaid Abbas (203-F-83) of Shandong FB - 23 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Li Yi (203-SF-85) of Jiangsu D. - 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Jackson Vroman (208-C/F-81) of Shandong FB - 12 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists
9. ZhiZhi Wang (215-C-77) of Bayi R. - 25 points and 11 rebounds
10. ZhengDong Tang (213-C-84) of Xinjiang FT - 29 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

CBA Round 17 of Regular Season - 57 minutes ago
The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Round 17 in CBA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Shenzhen where host Leopards (12-5) edged league's leader Flying Leopards (13-4) 92-89 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Flying Leopards. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of...   [read more]
