Experienced American Charles Gaines (201-F-81) had a great game in the last round for Shanxi Zh. and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 40 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team beat Foshan LL (#10, 2-2) 120-112. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Thanks to this victory Shanxi Zh. moved-up to the 12th position in the Chinese CBA. Shanxi Zh. is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. It's Gaines' second year at Shanxi Zh. and it's hard to imagine this team without him. University of Southern Mississippi graduate has very impressive stats this year. Gaines is in league's top in points (4th best: 30.7ppg), rebounds (7th best: 13.0rpg) and averages solid 66.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Shanxi Zh.'s star - 26-year old American swingman Marcus Williams (200-F/G-86, agency: Interperformances). Williams impressed basketball fans with 37 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course Shanxi Zh. cruised to a 120-112 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Foshan LL (#10, 2-2). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Shanxi Zh. dropped in the standings to 12th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 1-2 record. Williams is well-known by Shanxi Zh. fans and together with Charles Gaines they both established positions among team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 33.7ppg (#2). His other stats are also decent: 5.0rpg and 5.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Josh Boone (208-F/C-84) of Zhejiang CB (#7). Boone scored 22 points and grabbed eighteen rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Zhejiang CB, leading his team to a 103-98overtime win against slightly lower-ranked DongGuan L. (#9, 2-2). Zhejiang CB needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 1 lost games. Boone has a great season in China. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 14.7rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Wei Liu (190-PG-80) of Shanghai S. - 28 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Mike Harris (198-F-83) of Jiangsu D. - 34 points and 15 rebounds
6. Zhelin Wang (215-PF-94) of Fujian QB - 25 points and 13 rebounds
7. Garret Siler (213-C-86) of Jiangsu D. - 15 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Zaid Abbas (203-F-83) of Shandong FB - 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Jianlian Yi (212-PF-87) of Guandong ST - 26 points and 6 rebounds
10. ZhiZhi Wang (215-C-77) of Bayi R. - 27 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
