CBA Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team and favorites losing the games.

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Xinjiang Flying Tige (2-1) on the court of ninth ranked Foshan on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Foshan 101-91. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Xinjiang Flying Tige. The game was mostly controlled by Foshan. Xinjiang Flying Tige managed to win third quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Foshan dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Xinjiang Flying Tige's 44. It was a great evening for swingman Mingxin Ju (200-93) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds. Syrian guard Michel Maadanly (194-81) helped adding 19 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward James Singleton (203-81, college: Murray St.) with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Xinjiang Flying Tige's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Foshan moved-up to third place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated Xinjiang Flying Tige. Foshan is again looking forward to face Xinjiang Flying Tige (#3) in Urumqi in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play at home against Bayi Rockets in Ningbo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Dongguan. Seventh ranked Guandong Tigers (2-1) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (1-2) 113-110 on Friday evening. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Terrence Williams (198-87, college: Louisville) who led the winners and scored 32 points. Jianlian Yi accounted for 24 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). American forward Al Thornton (203-83, college: Florida St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for Zhejiang Guangsha Lions in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Guandong Tigers moved-up to third place, which they share with 6 other teams. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with two games lost. They share it with Shanxi Zh.. Guandong Tigers will play against Jiangsu Dragons (#14) in Nanjing in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Zhejiang Guangsha Lions will play on the road against Fujian in Jinjiang to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Yingkou. 4th placed host Liaoning Hunters (1-1) lost to leader Beijing Ducks (3-0) 109-104. The best player for the winners was Stephon Marbury who scored 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). At the other side the best for losing team was Joe Alexander who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (went 13 for 13 at the free throw line !!!). Beijing Ducks have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 3-0 record, which they share with Shandong FB. Loser Liaoning Hunters dropped to the tenth position with one game lost. They share it with Zhejiang CB. Beijing Ducks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Liaoning Hunters will play against TianJin Steel (#8) in Tianjin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Bottom-ranked Shanghai Sharks (0-3) were defeated at home by leader Shandong Bulls (3-0) with the biggest margin this round 89-78 on Friday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Pooh Jeter who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Shanghai Sharks' coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Shandong Bulls have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Beijing Ducks. Loser Shanghai Sharks still closes the standings with three games lost. Shandong Bulls will face Jilin Tigers (#15) in Changchun in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Shanghai Sharks will play at home against Qingdao Eagles and look forward to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: winless Jilin NE T. lost to TianJin S. on the opponent's court 83-89. DongGuan L. managed to outperform Jiangsu D. in a home game 98-92. Fujian QB managed to beat Shanxi Zh. on the road 109-102.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 31 points and 16 rebounds by Charles Gaines of Shanxi Zh..


Qingdao E. - Bayi R. 99-101

A very interesting game took place in Qingdao. It ended with only two-point home defeat of bottom-ranked Qingdao Eagles (0-3) to fifth ranked Bayi Rockets (2-1) 101-99 on Friday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Qingdao Eagles were ahead by 11 points after three quarters before a 29-16 charge of Bayi Rockets, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-16 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. 27 personal fouls committed by Qingdao Eagles helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for the former international center ZhiZhi Wang (215-77) who led his team to a victory with 27 points and 9 rebounds. The former international center Ke Mo (210-82) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Forward YongGang Zhao (202-82) answered with 36 points (!!!) and Congolese-Belgian center Ilunga Mbenga (214-80) added 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks in the effort for Qingdao Eagles. Five Bayi Rockets and four Qingdao Eagles players scored in double figures. Qingdao Eagles' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-83. TianJin Steel forced 23 Jilin Tigers turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when TianJin Steel made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for American power forward Donnell Harvey (203-80, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points and 8 rebounds. Jordanian guard Osama Daghles (198-79, college: Midwestern St.) helped adding 19 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. DongGuan L. - Jiangsu D. 98-92

Very predictable result when eighth ranked DongGuan Leopards (2-1) defeated at home bottom-ranked Jiangsu Dragons (0-2) 98-92 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Jiangsu Dragons won third quarter 24-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when DongGuan Leopards won last quarter 29-25. Strangely Jiangsu Dragons outrebounded DongGuan Leopards 45-32 including 17 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when DongGuan Leopards made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Marcus Haislip (208-80, college: Tennessee) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points. Shanxi Zh. - Fujian QB 102-109

Everything could happen in Taiyuan at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Fujian and 11th ranked Shanxi Zhongyu had identical 1-1 record. But Shanxi Zhongyu was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Jinjiang 109-102 on Friday night. Fujian made 18-of-18 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Shanxi Zhongyu was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Sundiata Gaines (185-86, college: Georgia) helped adding 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Fujian players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import swingman Marcus Williams (200-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) scored 30 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fujian (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with 6 other teams. Loser Shanxi Zhongyu dropped to the twelfth position with two games lost. Fujian will face Zhejiang Guangsha Lions (#12) in Hangzhou in the next round and are hoping to win another game.

Sydney Kings (NBL) agreed terms with 20-year old Chinese forward Bo Liu (205-96). He played this summer at Melbourne Tigers (SEABL-East). In 24 games he had 9.2ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.5apg.
