Dragons survive under Barracudas fangs - Dec 4, 2010

Saturday, December 04, 2010, Kuala Lumpur The Westports KL Dragons almost see their winning streak in jeopardy, but were able to survive through regulation, to force an overtime and earned their 6th victory in last 7 games with a 95 87 win over the Brunei Barracudas.

The Dragons were lack of spirit at start the game, being out hustled by 16 24 on the boards by the Barracudas, including giving out 14 offensive boards. However, their better overall shooting kept them in the game by just trailing 16 18 after first quarter.

Both Dragons and Barracudas were struggling to get out from shooting slump, but it was the Dragons having better concentration on protecting the boards which indirectly helps them to gain a 33 29 lead into the locker room.

Both teams found the scoring touch after coming back from locker room to start the third quarter. Christopher Garnett (211-C-80, college: Indiana SE) and Nakiea Miller (205-C-79, college: Iona) have no answer to each others offensive moves, canceling each other out by scoring 9 apiece in the third quarter. The Barracudas won the third quarter 27 22 and regained a 56 55 lead to start the forth period.

The Dragons rallied to a little 6-0 run in midway of the fourth quarter to take a 5 point cushion with 4:26 left in the regulation. But Nakiea Miller hit by a technical foul which was also his 5th personal forced him to leave the game. The Barracudas surged to a 9 0 run of their own on the next 2 minutes span to take a 75 71 lead for good.

Barracudas were still able to hang on with a 79 76 lead with 17 seconds left in the forth quarter, but Chester Tolomia (191-G-80) was charged with a foul on Patrick Cabahug (186-G) when Cabahug attempted a 3-pointer. Cabahug calmly sinks three freethrows in the final 1.8 second to force overtime. The Dragons regrouped and surged to a 10 0 run to start the overtime period, ripping Barracudas and never look back.

Nakiea Miller led five Dragons players in double figure with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks before fouling out for the second straight game. Patrick Cabahug shines in crucial moment to score 16 points, Raymundo added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Alex Hartman had an off night on shooting, but able to contribute by dishing out 7 assists. Chee Li Wei added 11 points from the bench.

Brunei Barracudas offensive loads were heavily depended on the trio of Christopher Garnett (30 points 17 rebounds), Chris Commons (204-F-84, college: USC Aiken) (29 points 11 rebounds) and Ramsey Williams (178-G-80, college: Hawaii) (20 points 5 rebounds). Bryan Faundo (198-C-84) and Chester Tolomia each had 4 points to round up Barracudas scores.   

Halif and Son's win Seria tournament - 16 days ago
THE Men's Open Basketball Tournament 2018, organised by the Kampong Baru Mutual Aid Association, was held at the basketball court in Kampong Baru, Seria recently. Halif & Son's emerged as champions defeating the Wolves 95-71. Meanwhile, Primatel won the third spot beating Le Doux Patisserie 53-43. Men Open Basketball tourney in Seria - 24 days ago
THE New Village Mutual Aid Association is organising the Men Open Basketball Tournament 2018 at the basketball court in the New Village, Seria. The teams participating in the tournament are Wolves, Primatel, Halif & Son's, SSM All Star, Le Doux Patisserie, and SRI. Eight teams to test grit in Asli-KTM Cup basketball meet - 2 months ago
EIGHT teams are competing for the Asli-KTM Cup at the New Village Basketball Court in Seria. Organised by the Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA), the week-long tournament's opening ceremony was officiated by YB Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin, a Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Liang.
