The imports of the Brunei Barracudas are all hyped up towards their first game of sophomore season for the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

American import, Chris Commons (204-F-84, college: USC Aiken), and the trio of ASEAN imports, Kevin White, Chester Tolomia and Bryan Faundo, have all checked in for Brunei's first professional team while American Kenny Boyd will only arrive in the Sultanate in the next few days.

As imports, they are here on a mission to bolster the team at both ends of the court and they want to help the team perform well in the second season.

'I heard that this is a nice country with competitive basketball. I knew that coach Wells was coming and I'm used to it having played under him before,' said Commons on why he came to the Sultanate.

'I'm not going to lie but it is extremely hot and humid here. I had a chance to go to the city and it's just gorgeous. You will see smiles on everyone's faces and the food is good. It is everything as I expected,' said Commons, who is a fan of LeBron James.

When asked on his main goal, Commons replied: 'I just want to win honestly. Everywhere I go, I must have the ability to play to my best. I'm on a mission to help get the team into the playoffs this season.'

Commons, standing at 6ft 9in, is a versatile player that will play the forward positions and can also provide an inside presence on offence with post up moves down the low block or even fire the three.

The 25-year-old played for BSW Wulfen in Germany earlier in the year that saw his team emerge the 2010 WBV Cup Champions. He averaged 21.1 points per game in the campaign.

He played under Ozell Wells, the Barracudas head coach, at Al Ittihad Basket Club in Bahrain in 2009, averaging 34 points per game. Other achievements under his belt include a two-time consensus NCAA All-American basketball player.

Kevin White, a Filipino-American standing at 5ft 11in, will play at the point guard position and will be setting the tempo for the team.

'This team is exactly what I expected. It is a great team with a good programme and staff. The chemistry is growing quickly and I'm looking forward to having some big games,' said White, who played for Barangay Ginebra Kings in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) last season.

Chester Tolomia, who stands at 6ft 2in, will be the team's shooting guard and is able to land a barrage of threes including slashing to the hoop.

'I'm very excited to play and I'm looking forward for some good games. I'll put in my best effort and play to my strengths including playing good defence as well,' said Tolomia.

Tolomia started out in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and eventually emerged the MVP in 2001.

He moved to play for Ginebra from 2002-2004 in the PBA before playing in the Sta Lucia Realtors, Coca Cola Tigers and San Miguel Beermen before coming to the Sultanate.

Bryan Faundo, who is the tallest amongst the ASEAN imports at 6ft 6in, will be enforcer at the defensive end.

'I want to go out there and prove myself and have a good season but I'm feeling the pressure as I want to win every game,' said Faundo.

The 26-year-old Filipino was the Most Improved Player in the NCAA in 2007 and was also named to the Mythical 5 team the same year. He played for Barako Coffee in the PBA last season before joining the Barracudas.
