Barracudas Close to Elimination at Hands of Slammers - Dec 22, 2010

Wednesday, December 22, 2010, Bandar Seri Bagawan There was no surprise as the league leading Chang Thailand Slammers beat the bottom dweller Brunei Barracudas 72 65 and pushed the Barracudas to the brink of elimination. The Slammers were powered by Jason Dixon (205-C-73, college: Liberty) solid double-double (18 points 15 rebounds) and 21 points by leading scorer Chris Kuete (195-G/F-83), but had a slow start at the first quarter which allowed the Barracudas to please the home crowd with a 15 8 lead, largest deficit of the night for the home team. The Barracudas lead the Slammers 19 -16 after the first quarter.
The Slammers strengthen their defense in the second quarter, allowed only 8 points to the Barracudas and took a slight 30 27 halftime lead. Although the Barracudas scored 4 straight points to start the second half and regained a 1-point lead, but the Slammers response with a 10 0 run and never look back.
With their playoffs hopes on the line, the Barracudas fought back hard with a 10 -1 run of their own in late third quarter to narrow the deficit to only down by 47 49 to start the final quarter. However the Slammers outplayed the Barracudas again with a 15 7 run and earned their biggest lead of the game at 12 points. The Barracudas never able to get closer than 6 points thereafter and went on to swallow their 9th loses of the season.
Christopher Garnett (211-C-80, college: Indiana SE) continues his consistent performance with 20 points and 13 rebounds, fellow import Chris Commons (204-F-84, college: USC Aiken)) and Bryan Faundo (198-C-84) added 19 and 17 apiece for the Barracudas.
Chang Thailand Slammers continue to lead the league with 9 wins and 3 loses, whereas the Barracudas are now one full game behind Satria Muda BritAma and two games behind the Singapore Slingers with 3 wins 9 loses. courtesy of Asean Basketball League
