Regular Season Round 7: Shizuoka - Veertien Mie 101-78
Date: October 23, 2022
Very expected game when 9th ranked Veertien Mie (3-5) was rolled over on the road by fourth ranked Shizuoka (7-1) 101-78 on Sunday. Shizuoka looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for Bahamas forward Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) helped adding 24 points and 5 rebounds. Miller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Shizuoka players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Josh Martin (201-1995, college: Santa Clara) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import guard Tucker Haymond (198-1994, college: W.Michigan) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Shizuoka. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Iwate and Kagoshima. Veertien Mie lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Kanazawa and Shanan Utd. Shizuoka will meet at home league's second-placed Iwate in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Veertien Mie will play against Tokyo Utd (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
