Regular Season Round 14: Terrafirma Dyip - SM Beermen 108-109

Twelfth-ranked Terrafirma Dyip (0-9) made lots of trouble for first ranked SM Beermen (9-1) in Makati City on Thursday. The visitors from Manila managed to secure only one-point victory 109-108. However their fans expected much easier game. SM Beermen dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Terrafirma Dyip's 48. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Naturalized American swingman Marcio Lassiter (190-1987, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 23 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard John Calvo (174-1997) produced 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and Swedish forward Philip Cahilig (191-1991) added 17 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. SM Beermen have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-1 record. Terrafirma Dyip at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. SM Beermen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Meralco Bolts.
