Phoenix can celebrate their first win this season after two consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Makati City, where they outplayed Terrafirma Dyip (0-3) 97-74 on Friday. Phoenix forced 19 Terrafirma Dyip turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) stepped up and scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-1991, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Power forward Joseph Gabayni (196-1994) responded with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Phoenix (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Rain or Shine. It was Terrafirma Dyip's third loss in a row. They still close the standings with three games lost. Phoenix will meet at home Rain or Shine (#9) in the next round. Terrafirma Dyip will play against FiberXers in Makati and hopes to get finally their first victory.
