Regular Season Round 62: Nishinomiya S. - Kagawa FA 78-51
Date: May 1, 2022
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Hyogo where second-ranked Kagawa FA (34-16) was crushed by third ranked Nishinomiya S. (35-19) 78-51 on Sunday. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Nishinomiya S. dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Kagawa FA's 22. They outrebounded Kagawa FA 52-27 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Nishinomiya S. looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Kagawa FA's players. Senegalese center Cheikh Mbodj (208-1987, college: Cincinnati, agency: Octagon Europe) had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American Shaquille Hines (203-1993, college: UTRGV) chipped in 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Australian forward Rhys Vague (206-1996) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Alexander Aihara (184-2000) scored 14 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Nishinomiya S. moved-up to second place. Loser Kagawa FA dropped to the third position with 16 games lost.
