Regular Season Round 49: Yokohama EX - Chiba 62-99

There was no surprise in Tokyo where 11th ranked Yokohama EX (13-27) was crushed by second ranked Chiba (30-5) 99-62 on Monday. Chiba dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Yokohama EX's 28 and made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Yokohama EX 53-20 including a 41-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Chiba looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Yokohama EX's players. American forward Kevin Kotzur (203-1989, college: St.Mary's, TX) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Robert Dozier (206-1985, college: Memphis) chipped in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Chiba players scored in double figures. At the losing side Canadian forward Mamadou Gueye (201-1993, college: Alberta) responded with 20 points and Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (198-1991, college: Missouri, agency: Haylett Sports) scored 8 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Chiba. Newly promoted Chiba maintains second place with 30-5 record having twelve points less than leader Nagasaki. Loser Yokohama EX keeps the eleventh position with 27 games lost. Chiba will meet at home league's leader Nagasaki in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Yokohama EX's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tokyo Tokyo HT.
