There was a minor upset in Matsuyama where their close opponent Yamagata (18-26) was defeated by fifth ranked Ehime OV (21-21) 88-74 on Saturday. Ehime OV outrebounded Yamagata 35-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American-Filipino forward Eugene Phelps (198-1990, college: LBSU) who scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Tatsuhiko Toshino (185-1988) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Four Ehime OV players scored in double figures.
