There was no surprise when 10th ranked Gifu (15-25) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Shizuoka (25-9) 90-63 on Friday. Shizuoka dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gifu's 38. Shizuoka forced 20 Gifu turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American center Ryan Stephan (208-1994, college: CMU) chipped in 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import center Jayce Johnson (213-1997, college: Marquette) scored 7 points and 16 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shizuoka have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 25-9 record. Gifu at the other side keeps the tenth place with 25 games lost. Shizuoka will meet league's second-placed Kagoshima in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Gifu will play against Aisin AW (#6) and hope to secure a win.
