Regular Season Round 13: Alaska Aces - Phoenix 99-104

The game between third ranked Alaska Aces (6-4) and seventh ranked Phoenix (5-4) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Alaska Aces were defeated by Phoenix in a tough game in Makati 99-104. Phoenix made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American forward Du'Vaughn Maxwell (201-1991, college: Hampton) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-1991, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 26 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists (made all of his eight free throws). At the losing side Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-1988, college: Oregon) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Robbie Herndon (191-1993, college: SF State) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Phoenix and five Alaska Aces players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Phoenix moved-up to sixth place, which they share with TNT Ka Tropa. Alaska Aces at the other side keep the third position with four games lost. They share it with SM Beermen. Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Alaska Aces will play on the road against the league's leader Hotshots in Pasig City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
