Regular Season Round 42: Koshigaya A. - Yamagata 78-90

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Tokyo where one of their biggest challengers Koshigaya A. (19-15) was defeated by fifth ranked Yamagata (16-21) 90-78 on Saturday. Yamagata looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) who scored 21 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The other American import forward Jawad Williams (204-1983, college: UNC) chipped in 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Yamagata players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Isaac Butts (208-1989, college: App State) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Shunki Hatakeyama (170-1991) added 7 points and 6 assists respectively. Koshigaya A.'s coach Sho Higashijima rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Yamagata maintains fifth position with 16-21 record, which they share with Ehime OV. Loser Koshigaya A. keeps the fourth place with 15 games lost. Yamagata will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Koshigaya A. will play again against Yamagata (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
