Regular Season Round 8: Meralco Bolts - North Port 98-109

The most surprising game was the first loss of Meralco Bolts (3-1) in Manila on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by eleventh ranked North Port (1-5) 109-98. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Meralco Bolts. Strangely Meralco Bolts outrebounded North Port 52-40 including a 21-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Meralco Bolts helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Jamel Artis (201-1993, college: Pittsburgh) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) contributed with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four North Port players scored in double figures. Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (201-1989, college: Texas St., agency: 011 Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and point guard Christopher Banchero (186-1990, college: Seattle Pacific) added 23 points and 4 assists in the effort for Meralco Bolts. Meralco Bolts' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. North Port maintains eleventh position with 1-5 record. Meralco Bolts at the other side dropped to the sixth place with one game lost. North Port will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Meralco Bolts' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Rain or Shine.
