Regular Season Round 18: Al Ahli - Al Wakrah 83-60

Date: January 29, 2022
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Al Wakrah (6-2) in Doha on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by fourth ranked Al Ahli (5-2) 83-60. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Al Wakrah. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Al Ahli dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Al Wakrah's 28. They outrebounded Al Wakrah 41-20 including a 32-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Ahli looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-88, college: Charleston, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and international forward Ndoye Seydou (205-99) who added 16 points and 18 rebounds during the contest. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Brandon Spearman (191-91, college: Hawaii) responded with 20 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import Julius Coles Jr (193-89, college: Canisius) scored 14 points and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Al Ahli have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Sadd and Al Shamal. Al Wakrah at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost.
