Regular Season Round 9: Al Jalil - Kofer Yoba 87-96

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Irbid: Kofer Yoba (#4) and Al Jalil (#6). Al Jalil was defeated at home 87-96 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Kofer Yoba dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Al Jalil's 34. Kofer Yoba had a 38-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists. Al Jalil was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international Ibrahim Hamati (187-96) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists. American forward James Currington III (201-95, college: SE Louisiana) contributed with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Four Kofer Yoba players scored in double figures. Khaldoun Jbarah answered with 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and Nabeel Ishraikh (-0) added 6 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists in the effort for Al Jalil. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kofer Yoba maintains fourth place with 3-6 record. Al Jalil lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Kofer Yoba will play against Al Jubaiha (#5) at home in the next round. Al Jalil will play against the league's leader Orthodox in Amman and hopes to get finally their first victory.
