Regular Season Round 9: Al Ahli - Orthodox 74-98

The biggest surprise of round 9 took place in Amman where guest Orthodox (#1) crushed lower ranked Al Ahli (#2) by 24 points 98-74 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Al Ahli. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Orthodox looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was Senegalese forward Ibrahima Thomas (213-87, college: Cincinnati, agency: BIG) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds. International guard Amin Abuhawwas (190-94, college: Mars Hill) chipped in 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Abuhawwas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Shaquille Thomas (201-92, college: Cincinnati) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and Yousef Al-Awamleh added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Orthodox (8-1) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place. Defending champion Al Ahli keeps the second position with two games lost. Orthodox are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Al Jalil (#6) in Irbid in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Al Ahli's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Amman Al Wihdat.
