Regular Season Round 31: Yamagata - Kumamoto V. 68-93
Date: January 22, 2022
Rather expected game when 5th ranked Yamagata (15-14) was smashed at home by second ranked Kumamoto V. (19-12) 93-68 on Saturday. Kumamoto V. dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Yamagata's 34 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Kumamoto V. looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman LJ Peak (196-96, college: Georgetown, agency: Pensack Sports) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Jordan Hamilton (201-90, college: Texas) accounted for 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Four Kumamoto V. players scored in double figures. American center Kenny Lawson (207-88, college: Creighton) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Shunto Murakami (183-96) added 7 points and 9 assists respectively for Yamagata in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Kumamoto V.. They maintain second place with 19-12 record having four points less than leader Kagawa FA. Loser Yamagata keeps the fifth position with 14 games lost. Kumamoto V. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Yamagata will play again against the league's second-placed Kumamoto V. (#2) and hope to secure a win.
