An exciting game was played in Nur-Sultan. Top-ranked Astana faced 4th ranked Tobol. Host Astana (8-0) smashed guests from Kostanay (3-7) 112-49. Astana dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tobol's 26. Astana forced 38 Tobol turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Tobol's players. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Ruslan Aitkali (195-97) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 5 rebounds and Russian forward Mark Tikhonenko (208-98, college: Chattanooga) who added 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Five Astana players scored in double figures. Astana's coach Darko Ruso felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was international forward Anton Bykov (200-89) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and international point guard Shaim Kuanov (181-91) scored 8 points and 4 assists. Astana have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-0 record. Tobol lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Astana will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tobol will play against the league's second-placed Barsy Atyrau (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
