Regular Season Round 9: Aranmare A. - Fujitsu RW 50-71

Bottom-ranked Aranmare A. (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 71-50 loss to leader Fujitsu RW (9-0) in Akita on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Fujitsu RW dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Aranmare A.'s 18. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Fujitsu RW made 9 blocks. The former international power forward Monica Okoye (182-99) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and international point guard Rui Machida (162-93) chipped in 5 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. The best for the losing side was guard Mahoko Hisaoka (166-94) with 13 points and forward Hitomi Kawase (174-93) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Fujitsu RW. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Denso I. Aranmare A. lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with nine games lost. Fujitsu RW will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aranmare A. will play again against the league's second-placed Fujitsu RW (#2) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
