Regular Season Round 9: Yamaguchi - Kanazawa 83-71

Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked Kanazawa (0-7) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Yamaguchi (2-5) 83-71 on Saturday. Yamaguchi forced 25 Kanazawa turnovers. American forward Robert Sampson (203-92, college: Georgia Tech) stepped up and scored 24 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winners and his fellow American import center Nicholas Evans (210-88, college: S.Indiana) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Sampson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Yamaguchi players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Daichi Tomioka (165-95) with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and point guard Shodai Tanaka (178-97) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yamaguchi moved-up to eleventh place. Kanazawa lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost. Yamaguchi will again meet at home Kanazawa (#14) in the next round. Kanazawa will have a break next round.
