Regular Season Round 5: Aishin AW - Hitachi Cougars 56-72

Very significant was Hitachi Cougars' (#5) 16-point road victory against second-ranked Aishin AW 72-56. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aishin AW. It was a key game for the second position in the league. They outrebounded Aishin AW 46-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. The former international center Rika Tanimura (185-93) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side and guard Aya Tsurumi (165-92) accounted for 8 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Hitachi Cougars' coach Tomohide Utsumi allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Kiri Endo (168-97) came up with 15 points and 6 rebounds and power forward Sakiko Nomachi (177-87) added 11 points and 5 assists respectively for Aishin AW in the defeat. Hitachi Cougars (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Denso I. Aishin AW at the other side dropped to the fourth position with one game lost. They share it with Eneos S.. Hitachi Cougars will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aishin AW will play again at home against Hitachi Cougars (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
