Regular Season Round 9: Shinagawa - Chiba 67-109
Date: November 4, 2021
There was no surprise when 11th ranked Shinagawa (2-8) was crushed at home by leader Chiba (8-0) 109-67 on Thursday. Chiba dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Shinagawa's 42. They outrebounded Shinagawa 46-18 including a 29-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Chiba looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Shinagawa's players. American power forward Evan Ravenel (204-89, college: Ohio St.) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import forward Kevin Kotzur (203-89, college: St.Mary's, TX) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Matt Bonds (196-95, college: St.Michael's, agency: Duran International) with 13 points and 5 rebounds and guard Shogo Taira (170-97) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Chiba. Newly promoted Chiba maintains third place with 8-0 record having 2 victories less than leader Nagasaki. Shinagawa lost their fourth game in a row. Shinagawa at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the twelfth position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
