Regular Season Round 5: Tokyo HT - Gifu 76-95

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Gifu and 9th ranked Tokyo HT had identical 2-2 record. But Tokyo HT was not able to use a home court advantage and was outplayed by the opponent from Gifu 95-76 on Saturday night. Gifu dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo HT's 38. They outrebounded Tokyo HT 44-21 including a 31-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gifu looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Tokyo HT's players. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Jerrell Wright (204-91, college: La Salle) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Alex Floresca (203-96, college: San Diego) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Five Gifu players scored in double figures. Guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) produced 21 points and power forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu (3-2) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Kagoshima. Loser Tokyo HT keeps the ninth position with three games lost. Gifu will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Tokyo HT will play again against Gifu (#6) and hope to secure a win.
