Regular Season Round 4: Gifu - Chiba 73-102

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Gifu (2-2) was smashed at home by top-ranked Chiba (2-0) 102-73 on Sunday. Chiba made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The winners were led by American forward Leo Lyons (206-87, college: Missouri) who scored that evening 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Kevin Kotzur (203-89, college: St.Mary's, TX) supported him with 19 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Chiba players scored in double figures. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by American forward Jerrell Wright (204-91, college: La Salle) did not help to save the game for Gifu. Point guard Ryoya Arakawa (170-95) added 18 points and 4 assists for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chiba moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Okayama. Loser Gifu dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. They share it with Kagoshima and Tokyo HT. Chiba will meet at home Aisin AW (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gifu will play against Tokyo HT (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
