Very expected game in Manila where 9th ranked Phoenix (4-7) was rolled over by fifth ranked SM Beermen (6-3) 110-80 on Friday. SM Beermen made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Jaymar Perez (188-93) who helped to win the game recording 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and center June Mar Fajardo (210-89) who added 18 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists and naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-92, college: VCSU) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Four SM Beermen and five Phoenix players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. SM Beermen moved-up to fourth place. Loser Phoenix keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. SM Beermen will meet league's second-placed Hotshots in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Phoenix will have a break next round.
