Date: May 29, 2021
Rather predictable result when fifth ranked Iwate (25-13) smashed at home 9th ranked Kanazawa (9-29) 109-83 on Saturday. Iwate shot 65.7 percent from the field. Iwate outrebounded Kanazawa 37-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Iwate especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. Canadian forward Erik Nissen (206-95, college: Acadia) stepped up and scored 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Chris Olivier (202-92, college: OK State) chipped in 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) with 22 points and point guard Daichi Tomioka (165-95) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Iwate. They maintain fifth place with 25-13 record. Kanazawa lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 29 games lost. Iwate will face Toyoda Gosei (#6) in Aichi in the next round. Kanazawa will play on the road against the league's leader Aisin AW in Aichi and hope to win that game.
