The game in Kirkuk supposed to be quite interesting. Second ranked Al Shorta (17-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Nift Al-Shamal (7-13). Al Shorta smashed Nift Al-Shamal 109-88 on Sunday. Al Shorta held Nift Al-Shamal to an opponent 0.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 0.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Al Shorta forced 22 Nift Al-Shamal turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American guard Qyidar Davis (198-93, college: Indiana St.) stepped up and scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Hussein Talib (201-90) chipped in 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American guard Byron Ashe (186-95, college: Longwood) with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Brwa Hama Saeed scored 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Al Shorta maintains second place with 17-3 record having just two points less than leader Al Naft. Newly promoted Nift Al-Shamal dropped to the ninth position with 13 games lost. Al Shorta are looking forward to face Ghaz Al-Shamal (#10) in Kirku in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nift Al-Shamal will have a break next round.
