There was no surprise when 11th ranked Saitama (3-29) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Iwate (22-10) 83-73 on Sunday. Iwate made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Iwate outrebounded Saitama 41-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. Saitama was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Senegalese forward Bamba Diouf (198-93) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian forward Erik Nissen (206-95, college: Acadia) chipped in 25 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Iwate players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Will Creekmore (205-89, college: Missouri St.) with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and forward Keita Shinkawa (183-95) scored 10 points. Saitama's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Iwate maintains fifth position with 22-10 record. Saitama lost tenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 29 lost games. Iwate will face league's second-placed Aisin AW in Aichi in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Saitama will play at home against Gifu (#7) and hope to win that game.
