There was a minor upset in Ishikawa where 8th ranked Kanazawa (8-22) was defeated by tenth ranked Kagoshima (5-23) 104-93 on Friday. Kagoshima shot 33 for 44 from the free-throw line, while Kanazawa only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Kanazawa 36-22 including 23 on the defensive glass. Kanazawa was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Desmond Hubert (207-92, college: UNC) fired 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese center Diop Cheikh (210-97) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Five Kagoshima players scored in double figures. American guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) produced 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Kohei Takahashi (197-96) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kagoshima maintains tenth position with 5-23 record. Loser Kanazawa keeps the eighth place with 22 games lost. Kagoshima will face higher ranked Tokyo HT (#9) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
