Regular Season Round 52: Sichuan BW - Zhejiang GB. 101-106

There was no surprise in Sichuan where 11th ranked Blue Whales (26-24) were defeated by third ranked Golden Bulls (39-10) 106-101 on Monday. Golden Bulls dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Blue Whales' 54 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Golden Bulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Golden Bulls made 9 blocks. Blue Whales were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Austrian swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia, agency: BeoBasket) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Yibo Wang (190-97) chipped in 11 points and 7 assists. U.S. Virgin Islands-American forward Marcus Georges-Hunt (196-94, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Pensack Sports) produced 32 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) added 19 points and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) respectively for lost side. Four Golden Bulls and five Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Golden Bulls maintains third position with 39-10 record having seven points less than leader Guangdong ST. Loser Blue Whales keep the eleventh place with 24 games lost. Golden Bulls will face Sturgeons (#16) in Jinjiang in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Blue Whales will play on the road against Ducks (#10) in Beijing and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
