Regular Season Round 18: Al Hilla - Al Shorta 68-87

Very expected game when 11th ranked Al Hilla (1-9) was crushed at home by second ranked Al Shorta (11-1) 87-68. Al Shorta players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international center Mohammed Al-Khafaji (206-91) who led his team to a victory with 24 points. International guard Mohammed Abdulqader (183-95) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Four Al Shorta players scored in double figures. Al Shorta's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Point guard Mohammed Abbas (178-1) replied with 23 points and forward AlaA Abed (195-87) added 16 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Al Hilla. Al Shorta maintains second position with 11-1 record having just three points less than leader Al Naft. Al Hilla lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with nine games lost. Al Shorta's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Baghdad Al-Hashd.
