Regular Season Round 5: Iwate - Gifu 81-79

Fifth-ranked Gifu (5-5) was very close to win a game against first ranked Iwate (9-1) on Saturday. Iwate managed to secure only two-point victory 81-79. However their fans expected much easier game. American forward Chris Olivier (202-92, college: OK State) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Senegalese forward Bamba Diouf (198-93) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Four Iwate players scored in double figures. Canadian forward Mamadou Gueye (201-93, college: Alberta) answered with 37 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American forward Alex Floresca (203-96, college: San Diego) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Gifu. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Iwate have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Gifu at the other side dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Iwate are looking forward to face Tokyo EX (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gifu will play against Kagoshima and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
