There was no surprise in Dongguan where 19th ranked Sturgeons (5-27) were defeated by second ranked Guandong Tigers (28-4) 137-122. Guandong Tigers dominated down low during the game scoring 90 of its points in the paint compared to Sturgeons' 60 and made 35-of-41 charity shots (85.4 percent) during the game, while Sturgeons only scored seventeen points from the stripe. Guandong Tigers forced 22 Sturgeons turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. 35 personal fouls committed by Sturgeons helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American swingman Sonny Weems (198-86, college: Arkansas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. The other American import MarShon Brooks (197-89, college: Providence) contributed with 25 points for the winners. American point guard Trae Golden (189-91, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Network Sports International) replied with 28 points and 7 assists and Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-89, college: St.Bonaventure) added 27 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sturgeons. Five Guandong Tigers and four Sturgeons players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Guandong Tigers have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 28-4 record behind leader Liaoning FL. Sturgeons lost seventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 27 lost games. Guandong Tigers' next round opponent will be Sharks (#13) in Shanghai which should be an easy win for them. Sturgeons will play on the road against Flying Tigers (#3) in Urumqi and hope to win that game.
