Regular Season Round 25: Niigata A. - Shinshu BW 73-76

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Niigata A. (7-18) was edged at home by fifth ranked Shinshu BW (10-15) 76-73 on Sunday. Shinshu BW outrebounded Niigata A. 34-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American center Wayne Marshall (211-86, college: Temple) stepped up and scored 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 16 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. At the losing side American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-90, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) and American-North Macedonian power forward Richard Hendrix (203-86, college: Alabama) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted Shinshu BW maintains fifth place with 10-15 record, which they share with Shiga L-Stars. Loser Niigata A. dropped to the eighth position with 18 games lost. Shinshu BW will face Hokkaido L. (#10) in Saporro in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Niigata A. will play at home against Kyoto H. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
