Marcel Jones
Experienced American-New Zealand Marcel Jones (203-F-85) had a great game in the last round for Al-Riffa and that's him to receive a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 9.
The 32-year old forward had a double-double of 36 points and twelve rebounds, while his team edged out Al-Najma (#8, 3-5) 87-84. Al-Riffa is placed at 7th position in Bahrain Premier League. Al-Riffa is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 4-4 record. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 60.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Al-Riffa's top player in his first season with the team. Oregon State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is league's best scorer averaging so far 30.0ppg. Jones is in league's top in rebounds (8th best: 14.5rpg) and averages solid 1.5bpg,2.3spg and 57.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 39-year old American center Loren Woods (218-C-78) of Al-Hala. Woods impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 25 points and 22 rebounds. Bad luck as Al-Hala lost that game 84-89 to league's leader Al-Manama (#2, 7-0). Al-Hala managed to keep the same 5th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 5-3 record is not bad and everything may still change. Woods is well-known by Al-Hala fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 22.8ppg (#4). He also registered 16.9 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was American Haminn Quaintance (203-F-85) of Al-Najma (#8). Quaintance showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, seventeen rebounds (!!!) and six assists in the last round. Despite Quaintance's great performance Al-Najma lost 84-87 to slightly higher-ranked Al-Riffa (#7, 4-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Al-Najma not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 5 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Quaintance could try to bring Al-Najma's a little bit higher in the standings. Quaintance has a very solid season. In 7 games in Bahrain he scored 20.0ppg. He also has 17.4rpg, 5.0apg, 2.4spg, 1.9bpg and FGP: 57.7%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Antwan Wilkerson (201-F-91) of Al-Ittihad - 33 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists
5. Mahmood Aziz) of Isa Town - 20 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists
6. Mile Ilic (215-C-84) of Al-Nweidrat - 20 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Ahmed Aldurazi) of Al-Muharraq - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists
8. Hassan Helal (173-PG-95) of Al-Ittihad - 8 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists
9. Hassan Fahad) of Al-Ittihad - 14 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) of Al-Muharraq - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
