The biggest surprise of round 9 in Premier League took place in Nuwaidrat where guest Al-Ahli (#1) beat lower ranked Al-Nweidrat (#2) by 16 points 82-66 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Al-Nweidrat. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al-Ahli dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Al-Nweidrat's 24. The best player for the winners was Hussain Shaker who scored 23 points and 4 assists. American forward Quinton Doggett (206-90, college: Southern) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian-Serbian center Mile Ilic (215-84) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Al-Ahli (8-1) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place. Al-Nweidrat at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Al-Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manama Samaheej.
Another exciting game took place in Manama where eighth ranked Al-Riffa (4-4) edged by three points 7th ranked Al-Najma (3-5) 87-84. It was a good game for American-New Zealand forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. Saleh Mahdi contributed with 13 points for the winners. American forward Haminn Quaintance (203-85, college: Kent St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists for Al-Najma. Al-Riffa moved-up to seventh place. Al-Najma lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Sitra. Al-Riffa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al-Najma will play at home against Sitra (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Samaheej will play against the league's leader Al-Ahli (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

Al-Muharraq's coach Ivan Jeremic felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Al-Muharraq maintains fourth place with 6-1 record. Loser Sitra keeps the eighth position with five games lost. Al-Muharraq will face Hidd (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sitra will play against Al-Najma (#8) in Manama and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 9 Al-Hala lost to undefeated Al-Manama in Manama 84-89.

Samaheej - Isa Town 76-86

Bottom-ranked Samaheej (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 86-76 loss to eleventh ranked Isa Town (2-5) in Manama on Wednesday evening. Isa Town outrebounded Samaheej 48-37 including 36 on the defensive glass. Mahmood Aziz stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Sayed-Mohammed Habib chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. Four Isa Town players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Mahmood Mohammed with 23 points and 6 rebounds and Jassim Mohamed scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Isa Town moved-up to tenth place. Samaheej lost their eighth game in a row. The game in Sitra supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Al-Muharraq (6-1) played at the court of 8th ranked Sitra (3-5). Al-Muharraq smashed Sitra 108-54 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Sitra 50-32 including a 34-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al-Muharraq shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Sitra's players. The best player for the winners was Ahmed Aldurazi who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists. Ali Nader chipped in 18 points and 5 assists. Four Al-Muharraq players scored in double figures. Al-Muharraq's coach Ivan Jeremic felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Khalil Brown (206, college: Pace) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Nasser Almosawi added 20 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Al-Manama - Al-Hala 89-84

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Al-Hala (5-3) was defeated on the road by leader Al-Manama (7-0) 89-84 on Tuesday. Al-Manama made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Al-Hala turnovers. The best player for the winners was international forward Hassan Nawrooz who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. The former international Yunes Kawaid (-88) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Lebanese center Loren Woods (218-78, college: Arizona) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and 22 rebounds and Jordanian Ahmed Jamal (-87) added 19 points respectively. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Al-Manama. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Al-Hala keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Al-Manama will face Al-Bahrain (#11) in Manama in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al-Hala will play at home against Isa Town (#10) and hope to win that game.
