Mohamed Alderazi (194-F/G-80) scored 27 points to help Muharraq clinch the Khalifa bin Salman Basketball Cup after defeating Nuwaidrat 73-58 in the final at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town last night. The match was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and attended by Bahrain Basketball Association President Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and other top officials from clubs and sports associations. The quarters scores of the match were 21-14 (Nuwaidrat), 19-11 (Muharraq), 15-11 (Muharraq) and 25-15 (Muharraq). Al Derazi's 27 points included four of the three pointers shots scored by Muharraq. American Kadeem Coleby (206-C/F-89, college: Wichita St.) scored 16 points and Ali Abbas claimed 11 for the winners. Nuwaidrat's top scorers were Serbian Mile Ilic (215-C-84) with 24 points and Hassan Madan with 11. This was Muharraq's first title in three seasons, ending Manama's domination in the past three years. Nuwaidrat have now failed in their second final of the competition, having lost the title clash against Manama in 2008-2009. Muharraq were down in the first quarter by seven points after three pointer shots by Nuwaidrat's Hassan Madan and some great performance by Serbian Mile Ilic who set some fine lay ups to lead Nuwaidrat 21-14. However, Muharraq's Serbian coach Ivan Jeremic (agency: BeoBasket ) made up some fine substitutions later, which helped the team to bounce back and win the match. Shaikh Isa honoured Nuwaidrat team members with silver medals and Muharraq team members with gold medals and the Khalifa bin Salman Cup. Meanwhile, Bader Abdulla of Muharraq won the best three pointers shooter award in the championship, while his teammate Ahmed Hassan Al Derazi was presented with the best scorer award in the final and the best player award of the championship. In Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated the president and members of Muharraq Sports and Cultural Club for the victory. Shaikh Khalid also praised the performance of Nuwaidrat team, wishing them success in upcoming competitions.
