Bahrain ensured the winning start of their Arabian Gulf Championship campaign. The organizers of the tournament held off pesky Saudi Arabia 67:64 for the opening victory. The teams clashed at the Zain Bahrain Basketball Arena. Saudi Arabia surged ahead in the opening quarter. Fahad Belal (181-G-91) and Fahad Al Salem helped Saudi Arabia to a 41:29 halftime lead. Bahrain took over in the second half. They surged ahead and managed to secure a narrow win at the end. Bader Abdulla Malabes (87) and Ahmed Al Durazi led the charge for the home side.
Meanwhile UAE secured an easy 95:59 victory over Oman in the second game of the day.
The defending champions Qatar will enter the competition today. They are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia. Bahrain will play versus UAE looking for the second victory.

Sitra Club (Premier League) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American forward Kenny Williams (201-102kg-86, college: Angelo State). He played most recently at Al Kahraba in Iraqi Superleague. Great season indeed as he was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Iraqi League Honorable Mention. The previous (15-16) season Williams played at Contern (Total League) in Luxembourg where in 30 games he recorded very impressive stats: 21.5ppg, 11.8rpg, 2.5apg, 1.7spg and 1.0bpg. 27-year old forward Quinton Doggett (206-F-90) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's best team Al-Ahli and receives a Asia-basket.com Player of the Week award for round 10. He had a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Samaheej (#13, 0-9) with 41-point margin 100-59. Premier League Round 10: Top-ranked Al-Ahli wins another game - 7 days ago
Premier League top team - Al-Ahli (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Tuesday. This time they crushed thirteenth ranked Samaheej (0-9) in Manama 100-59. Al-Ahli dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Samaheej's 12. They outrebounded Samaheej 49-22 including a 35-14 advantage in defensive rebounds.
