Bahrain tip off Arabian Gulf Championship with victory - Oct 1, 2012

Bahrain ensured the winning start of their Arabian Gulf Championship campaign. The organizers of the tournament held off pesky Saudi Arabia 67:64 for the opening victory. The teams clashed at the Zain Bahrain Basketball Arena. Saudi Arabia surged ahead in the opening quarter. Fahad Belal (181-G-91) and Fahad Al Salem helped Saudi Arabia to a 41:29 halftime lead. Bahrain took over in the second half. They surged ahead and managed to secure a narrow win at the end. Bader Abdulla Malabes (87) and Ahmed Al Durazi led the charge for the home side.
Meanwhile UAE secured an easy 95:59 victory over Oman in the second game of the day.
The defending champions Qatar will enter the competition today. They are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia. Bahrain will play versus UAE looking for the second victory.

Al Ahli (Premier League) added to their roster 28-year old American power forward Malcolm White (205-102kg-88, college: LSU). He already started the season at Goes in Uruguayan LUB league. In 6 games he recorded 12.2ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.0apg and 1.0bpg this season. The last season White played at Qatar Sports Club in Qatari D1 where in 18 games he averaged impressive 18.2ppg, 14.7rpg (#2 in the league), 1.3apg and 1.9bpg. Premier League Round 8: Al Hala edges Sitra by three points - 2 days ago

Tenth-ranked Sitra (1-7) made lots of trouble for second ranked Al Hala (7-1) in Muharraq on Wednesday. Al Hala managed to secure only three-point victory 74-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Al Hala have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record having just one point less than leader Al Manama. Al Rayyan Doha (D1) signed 26-year old American center Marcus Bell (206-102kg-90, college: CS Stanislaus). He already started the season at Sitra Club in Bahrain Premier League. Bell also played earlier that season for Uhud (SBL) in Saudi Arabian league. The other team he played shortly was US Ansar (Division I) in Tunisian league.
