Bahrain ensured the winning start of their Arabian Gulf Championship campaign. The organizers of the tournament held off pesky Saudi Arabia 67:64 for the opening victory. The teams clashed at the Zain Bahrain Basketball Arena. Saudi Arabia surged ahead in the opening quarter. Fahad Belal (181-G-91) and Fahad Al Salem helped Saudi Arabia to a 41:29 halftime lead. Bahrain took over in the second half. They surged ahead and managed to secure a narrow win at the end. Bader Abdulla Malabes (87) and Ahmed Al Durazi led the charge for the home side. Meanwhile UAE secured an easy 95:59 victory over Oman in the second game of the day. The defending champions Qatar will enter the competition today. They are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia. Bahrain will play versus UAE looking for the second victory.
