UAE opened victoriously their GCC Championship campaign. They rallied past Bahrain in Doha yesterday. Amal Gamal stepped up with 28 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort. Bahrain got to the better start. They grabbed a 12:4 lead after ten minutes. But gradually UAE recovered and found the right rhythm. They stunned their opponents 25:2 in the second quarter to pile up a 15-point advantage. UAE continued to mount the pressure in the third term. They stretched the gap to as many as 21 points with ten minutes remaining. Bahrain could not recover and surrendered at the end. Ziekha Abdulla notched 13 points for the winners. Haneem Abdulaziz answered with 14 points for Bahrain. Mariam Hedar accounted for 13 points in the losing effort. UAE will next take on Qatar, while Bahrain will look for the initial win against Kuwait.

Qatar defeated Bahrain 66-30 to clinch the basketball title in the GCC Womens Games in Manama on Sunday.
Qatar won the gold with one round to spare as they topped the tournament with eight points from four matches, leaving Bahrain in second place with five points and a no-bearing game in hand against Kuwait.

Qatar defeated Bahrain 66-30 to clinch the basketball title in the GCC Womens Games in Manama on Sunday.
Qatar won the gold with one round to spare as they topped the tournament with eight points from four matches, leaving Bahrain in second place with five points and a no-bearing game in hand against Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Bahrain took all three podium places in the bowling singles event.
Former Arab champion Noora Sultan put on a solid performance to clinch the title with 1,221 points, finishing ahead of fellow Bahraini Yasmine Akeel (1,066) who came second.
Bahrains Fatma Janahi (1,049) rounded off the top three, much to the joy of a full-house home crowd and a proud team coach Abdullatif al-Dalhan.
Sixteen players from four GCC countries Kuwait, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain each played six games to determine the overall champion with highest number of points.
And it was the Bahraini bowlers who dominated the show, with three of its four entrants topping the competition.
Yesterdays programme also featured three more sports competitions, as Bahrain took seven medals on the athletics for the disabled first day.
Khalifa Sports City track hosted seven competitions in total, in which Bahrain took two gold medals, three silver and two bronze.
Latifa al-Shamri opened Bahrains account, taking home the javelin throw (F37, 600 grams) gold medal. She was followed by compatriot Zahra Abdulla in second place.
Bahrains Fatma Safar then topped the discus throw (F35-54) category, finishing ahead of Omans Shaikha bint Abdulla and third Iman Khalid of Bahrain.
In the other discus throw (F55) contest, Omani Rayan bint Khalid bagged the gold medal, with the bronze going out to Bahrains Roya Yousef and Amal Fardan, respectively.
The UAE athletes dominated the remaining four competitions as Mahra al-Kaabi (17.44 sec) proved too strong for Bahraini Shaikha al-Haiki (20.29) and Qatars Noaf al-Kubaisi (22.07) in the 100m race.
Aisha al-Khaldi (F32-33), Thuraya al-Zaabi (F34) and Seham al-Rashidi (F56-57-58) were also in command in their respective shot put events, giving three more medals to the Emirates.
Bahrain pulled off another success on the second day of taekwondo at Isa Sports Citys Bahrain Table Tennis Association gym, clinching three out of four gold medals.
Bahrains Kaltham Jassim, Ola al-Dossary and Aisha Abdulla bagged the 57kg, 67kg and 74kg gold medals, respectively, while the remaining under-47kg weight category was won by Qatari Kaltham al-Mutawa.
