Asian Championships Under 18 - Men Basketball

Yangon, the capital of Myanmar hosted six teams at the South East Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) in the 7th SEABA U18 Championship.
Philippines, Malaysia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar struggled for two tickets to to represent SEABA in the 21st FIBA Asia U18 Championship to be held in Sanaa Yemen from Sept 22 Oct 1.

Wai Lu scored 10 points for the winners and Nay Myo Min had 12. Somboun Nadonhai responded with 24 points in the losing effort. Philippines outscored Malaysia 87:59. Jeron Alvin Teng (181-G-95) paced all the winners with 19 points, whilst Isaac Ravena netted 12 and Jeth Rosario added 11. Choo Wei Hongs 15 points was the highest for Malaysia. Singapore defeated Thailand 47:39 Russel Low top-scored for the winners with 12 points and Larry Liew scored 10. Autman Al-Mabruk scored a game-high 19 points for Thailand.
In Day 2 Philippines cruised past Myanmar 108:39. Jeth Rosario top-scored for the winners with 20 points as they improved to 2-0. Roldan Sara poured in 19 points, Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Alvin Teng and Russel Escoto chipped in 10 points apiece. Nay Myo Min ended up with 8 points in the losing effort. Malaysia defeated Singapore 60:51 for their first win. Kok Chun Ng was the highest among Kok Kian Chuas boys with 14 points. Loh Shee Wong scored 13 and Choo Wei Hong added 12. Thailand rolled over Laos 71:44 for their first victory. Patcharaphum Phansura top-scored for the winners with 16 points and Sorot Suntonsiri chipped in with 10 points. Somboun Nadonhai responded with 17 points in the losing effort.
In Day 3 Philippines recorded their third successive win on the third day of the 7th SEABA U18 Championship. Philippines rolled over Singapore 78:40 for 3-0 record. Kiefer Ravena stepped up with 22 points and Jeth Rosario scored 10. Jabez Su ended up with 20 points in defeat. Malaysia produced a 97:53 win over Laos. Phetthasone Chaleunsouk opened the scoring for the game, but that was the lone bright spot for Laos in the game. Somboun Nadonhais game-high 19 points for Laos went in vain. Tan Wai Seng delivered 18 points for the winners. Choo Wei Hong brought his team 17 points and Loh Shee Weng scored 12. Thailand overcame Myanmar 58:52. Sorot Suntonsiri nailed 19 points for Thailand. Autman Al-Mabruk scored five of his games 13 points in the final quarter. Yan Sein and Nay Myo Min each scored 11 points for Myanmar.
In Day 4 Thailand produced a 75:68 win over Malaysia in a top game of the day. Autman Al-Mabruk paced all the winners with 22 points. Arnon Iamlamai contributed 17 points and Komsan Dechsom 16. Philippines destroyed Laos 133:30 for the fourth straight win. Six players scored in double digits as Kevin Ferrer (188-F) led them all with 23 points. Souliy Sayyasinh was the highest scorer for Laos with 11 points. Singapore edged Myanmar 78:70. Jabez Sus game-high 25 points marked Singapores win against Myanmar, while Dawei Khoo notched 13 points.Ky I Htwe and Sein Ly An scored 14 points each for Myanmar, while Wai Lu added 11.
In Day 5 Malaysia defeated hosts Myanmar 108:39 to finish the competition with a 3-2 record. Malaysia pipped Thailand to take the second spot, behind Philippines, on the final day of the 7th SEABA U18 Championship. Kok Chun Ng top-scored for the winners with 26 points. Loh Shee Weng and Choo Wei Hong both contributed 15 points each and Tan Wei Seng had 13. Wai Lus 10 points was the highest for Myanmar. Philippines overcame Thailand 69:38 to remain undefated and won SEABA with 5-0 record. Jeth Rosario paced all the winners with 15 points and Kiefer Ravena scored 13. Singapore overcame Laos 76:31 as David Soo scored 16 and Russel Low 13. Somboun Nadonhai nailed 19 points in the losing effort.

Mehdi Shirjang led the winners with 24 points. Farbod Farman netted 18, Ramin Honarmand scored 12 and Mohammad Amjad added 11. Alexander Tyutyunik, Anton Arsenyev and Artyom Skornyakov posted 18 each in defeat and Obirzak Akhmet had 11.

Iran U18 triumphs at home at FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men. In the Final game the team overcame strong Kazakhstan U18 95:76. Azadi Stadium crowd was gladly satisfied with their juniors effort. Mehdi Shirjang led the winners with 24 points. Farbod Farman netted 18, Ramin Honarmand scored 12 and Mohammad Amjad added 11. Alexander Tyutyunik, Anton Arsenyev and Artyom Skornyakov posted 18 each in defeat and Obirzak Akhmet had 11. Both Iran and Kazakhstan had already qualified for the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men in New Zealand next year. Both squads realized the importance of the game and tried hard from the very beginning. Iran managed to take 25:19 ahead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was fatal for the guests that trialed 24:35 in the middle of it. Moreover Iran pushed the tempo and increased to 59:37 going into the changing rooms and never looked back. The score after the third period was 81:58 that already at that time gave Iran the confidence in a win. The hosts did not stop and won the Final 95:76. It was a great organization and the spectators enjoyed the win of their local team!

Game for the 3rd place Syria U18-Japan U18 93:86
The title probably depicts better the whole campaign for Syria U18 that won Bronze medals of FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men. In the game for the third position Syria overcame Japan 93:86. Belal Gneed led the winners with 24 points, while Samar Bawadekji netted 16. Makoto Hiejima top-scored in defeat with 25 points. Yuya Nagayoshi posted 20 and Yusoke Karino had 12. The bronze also put Syria in the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men in New Zealand next year. Syria went on a lead from the very beginning taking the control of the game. They finished the opening quarter leading 22:17. Syria pushed the tempo for a bit to take 41:38 at the half time. The game remained interesting in the second half and the teams were separated by 5 points entering the last stanza, 61:56. In the last period Syria led to the win and grabbed bronze of the tournament. Japan had some great games and deserved a higher position. Anyway the game is game and the participation is more than that. The Final game is coming next.

Korea U18 ended 6th at the FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men. In the game for the 5th position the team lost to China 97:106. It was a great encounter and the first and the second quarters were tied at the end. Korea did not mind playing with the team that hoped for Gold and produced a great effort. Only in the third period China started to dominate the court and won the game. Cao Fei (193-G-88) paced all the winners with 23 points. Dong Hanlin (206-F-91) had 18, while Li Xiaoxu added 14. Jongill Lim produced 27 points in defeat, Kyungsang Park added 20 and Seounghyun Lee scored 14.

Omirzak Akhmet (202-C-90) led the winners with 31 points. Artyom Skornyakov nailed 17, while Alexander Ttyutyunik posted 15. Makoto Hiejima ended up with 22 points in defeat, while Yuya Nagayoshi added 21.
Kazakhstan destroyed Japan, whose tallest player is 198 cm in the semi-final.

Kazakhstan U18 defeated Japan U18 to reach the Final of FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men. The winners came to the winning effort step by step and had a wonderful last period. Kazakhstan has six players 200 cm and over and that was the key of the game. The winners opened the game with 23:21 lead with some difficulties in the period. Later however they improved to 44:38 at the halftime. Japan was able to reduce the gap to 3 points entering the last period. It was however their last spurt in the game. Kazakhstan was too good for the opponent in the final stanza and destroyed them 36:14. The victory sent Kazakhstan to the Final of the tournament. Iran will face Kazakhstan in the Asian Under-18 championship tomorrow.

Iran U18 will try to satisfy the local fans in Tehran in FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Men Final. The team crawled into it after a tough semifinal win over Syria U18. The latter surprised everyone entering the semifinals and could ask for more. Farbod Farman powered his way to grab the rebound, convert under the board and took Iran into the final with an 80:78 win. Mohammed Hasanzadeh led the winners with 27 points and 24 rebounds. Farbod Farman netted 17 and made 16 boards, while Mehdi Shrijang scored 10. Samer Bawadekji finished the game with 22 points in defeat and Alaa Al Sebaay posted 15. Iran booked a berth in the FIBA U19 World Championship for Men in New Zealand next year. Both teams stayed close in the first period and as a result the guests took only 23:21 advantage. Iran bounced back and could go on the break leading 6 points. In the third period Syria climbed to three points gap and trailed entering the last period. In a back-to-back battle Iran benefit from the game to enter the Finals. Farbod Farman converted under the board and took Iran into the final with an 80:78 win.
