It is said whenever a community is established in the USA, it is only a matter of time until the youth in that community rally around each other and around their favorite sport. And more often than not, it is basketball that fascinates them the most.

It has been the same with the Afghan community who have established a great number of teams and developed their own basketball leagues in the States. Great examples of Afghan basketball activity can be found at the http://www.afgbasketball.com  website showcasing some of the best Afghani basketball players around.

The Afghan Sports Federation (ABF) ( http://www.afghansportsfederation.org ) has also been very keen on running many sports programme including basketball for many years. Documentation of its activities are found on its basketball section here. The nearest tournaments in the States is ASF's Labor Day Weekend Afghan Basketball Tournament 2006 September 2-3 scheduled at McLean, Virginia.

There is a new air of optimism and apprehension these days. The Afghan American basketball community is buzzing and ecstatic with the news, Ever since it came out that there may be an Afghani sport delegation that will participate in the Asian Games in Doha, Qatar (official website: http://www.doha-
