Sammy Monroe joins KL Dragons, ex Halc.Xalapa - Feb 16, 2013

Westsports KL Dragons (ASEAN) added to their roster 28-year old American forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry, agency: Prossin Sports Management). He supposed to play at Halc.Xalapa in Mexican LNBP. In 13 games this season he had 10.2ppg, 3.1rpg and 1.6apg. The last season Monroe played at Tenerife Baloncesto (LEB Silver, starting five) in Spanish league. In 24 games last year he was second best scorer with impressive 16.5ppg and averaged 7.7rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg. A very spectacular season in his career as he was named to Spanish LEB Silver All-Imports Team and Honorable Mention.
The previous (10-11) season he played at Rochester RazorSharks in U.S. semi-pro league PBL. In 17 games that season he recorded 13.8ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg. Monroe also played at Potros (LNBP) in Mexico earlier that season. In 24 games that year he recorded very impressive stats: 15.7ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.8apg and 1.4spg. The other team he played shortly was Malvin (LUB) in Uruguayan league. In 5 games he recorded also great stats: 15.8ppg, 3.2rpg, 4.2apg, 3.2spg and 1.0bpg.
In 2007 Monroe was drafted by Sioux Falls Skyforce (D-League) in ninth round (118th overall).
The former Newberry College (NCAA Div.II) staris in his sixth season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as Monroe won PBL championship title in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
He has played previously professionally in Philippines (Barako Bull) and D-League (Austin Toros).
Monroe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
On Monroe: A big guard with skills who can also play the small forward position. He is a smooth and gifted scorer who creates well off the dribble and can knock down the perimeter shot. He has experience playing in Mexico and was one of the top scorers in the Philippines in 2010. During the ESL he showed his athleticism and he creative skills as a scorer either getting to the basket or knocking down jump shots.

Hong Kong ELL - Alab Pilipinas 94-98 Alab Pilipinas upset Hong Kong ELL on the road in the semifinal series opener. Alab Pilipinas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Hong Kong ELL's 38 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Singapore S. - Mono Vampire 82-85 Mono Vampire upset Singapore Slingers to sweep the quarterfinal series.
